Beautifully illustrated in full-color, Head and Neck Ultrasonography is regarded as the first, as well as the definitive, English-language textbook of head and neck ultrasonography by and for clinicians and surgeons. This book comprehensively and effectively addresses fundamentals of ultrasound physics, equipment, normal head and neck ultrasound anatomy, and technique. Individual chapters cover specific anatomy and pathology. Interventional ultrasonography and dynamic ultra-sonography is discussed and new directions and techniques in ultrasonography are presented. Head and Neck Ultrasonography is unique in both its thoroughness and in its relevance to the clinical setting, where ultrasonographic examination is a dynamic and interactive process between physician and patient.
In addition to numerous valuable examples of still ultrasound images throughout the text, a CD-ROM with video clips illustrating both the process and the interpretation of specific examinations and procedures is provided with the text. In response to the rapidly growing body of journal literature citing the utility and advantages of neck ultrasonography, especially in the management of thyroid disease, head and neck cancer, benign neoplasms and masses in the head in neck, Dr. Orloff, along with expert contributors, most of whom are surgeons, radiologists, endocrinologists, pathologists, and research scientists, have organized a complete textbook of head and neck ultrasonography, one to become the ideal complement to this surge in appreciation and utilization of ultrasonography. This book provides current and emerging developments in bioprinting with respect to bioprinting technologies, bioinks, applications, and regulatory pathways. Topics covered include 3D bioprinting technologies, materials such as bioinks and bioink design, applications of bioprinting complex tissues, tissue and disease models, vasculature, and musculoskeletal tissue. The final chapter is devoted to clinical applications of bioprinting, including the safety, ethical, and regulatory aspects.
This book serves as a go-to reference on bioprinting and is ideal for students, researchers and professionals, including those in academia, government, the medical industry, and healthcare.GET IT FREE HEREALTERNATIVE LINK. In Vitamin D: Physiology, Molecular Biology, and Clinical Applications, Second Edition, leading researchers provide a comprehensive, highly readable overview of the biological functions and clinical applications of vitamin D and its metabolites. Topics range from the most recent recommendations for vitamin D intake to new approaches for the treatment and prevention of vitamin D deficiency and the development of active vitamin D drugs to treat psoriasis and cancer. The book demonstrates the significant role that vitamin D has in maintaining good bone health and the prevention of osteoporosis, an important health problem for adults over the age of fifty.
In addition, it authoritatively reviews the relationship between sunlight exposure, vitamin D, and increased risk of colon and breast cancer; how vitamin D is made in the skin; and the sequence of events that leads to its activation by the kidney. Also examined are the biological functions of 1,25-dihydrovitamin D3 on the intestine and bone, as well as other tissues, such as skin, the immune system, prostate, and breast, and vitamin D’s molecular mechanism of action on the cell membrane and nucleus. The first edition of Vitamin D: Physiology, Molecular Biology and Clinical Applications was the benchmark in the field when published in 1999. This new and expanded volume continues to include extensive, in-depth chapters covering the most important aspects of the complex interactions between vitamin D and other dietary components, the ongoing debate concerning the best indicator of optimal vitamin D status and its nutrient requirements, and the impact of less than optimal status on disease risk.
Vitamin D: Physiology, Molecular Biology, and Clinical Applications, Second Edition is designed and organized not only to be an up-to-date review on the subject, but also to provide medical students, graduate students, health care professionals and even the lay public with a reference source for the most up-to-date information about the vitamin D deficiency pandemic and its clinical implications for health and disease. Long-term potentiation (LTP) is the most dominant model for neuronal changes that might encode memory. LTP is an elegant concept that meets many criteria set up by theoreticians long before the model’s discovery, and also fits the anatomical data of learning-dependent synapse changes. Since the discovery of LTP, the question has remained regarding how closely LTP produced in vitro by artificial stimulation of neurons actually models putative learning-induced synaptic changes. A number of recent investigations have tried to correlate synaptic changes observed after learning with changes produced by artificial stimulation of neurons. Some of these studies have failed to find a correlation between the two forms of synaptic plasticity, signalling a need to discuss the concept of LTP and possible alternate processes that could fit the available data. This book presents a selection of ideas that range from supporters of the LTP theory to different novel concepts that have yet to be investigated.
This volume will prepare the ground for research in this area in the new millennium. This volume presents the proceedings of the 7th International Conference on the Development of Biomedical Engineering in Vietnam which was held from June 27-29, 2018 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The volume reflects the progress of Biomedical Engineering and discusses problems and solutions. It aims to identify new challenges, and shaping future directions for research in biomedical engineering fields including medical instrumentation, bioinformatics, biomechanics, medical imaging, drug delivery therapy, regenerative medicine and entrepreneurship in medical devices.
Every medical student, resident, fellow and attending physician who deals with sports medicine injuries needs a high yield, comprehensive and practical resource to refer to time and time again. In Essential Sports Medicine, leading specialists in the field contribute their relevant expertise to provide such a resource. This essential reference presents the information in a easy-to-understand and conversational style that is perfect for Primary Care Physicians, Residents and Students. Obesity is one of the prime contributors to ill health in modern society, affecting around 20-25% of the population. It can cause or exacerbate a variety of health problems and is often associated with several other diseases including type II diabetes, coronary heart disease and certain types of cancer. Significant progress has been made in understanding the role of the nervous system and, in particular, the complex interplay between a range of orexigenic and anorectic agents within specific hypothalamic nuclei in the regulation of energy balance, appetite and adiposity.
Several different neuronal pathways, neurotransmitters and hormones have been identified as major players in the regulation of feeding behavior and body weight and these are now being targeted as having therapeutic potential. Written for academic researchers and graduate students, Neurobiology of Obesity is a concise overview of recent developments in this field, authored by leading international experts. Radiation and the effects of radioactivity have been known for more than 100 years. International research spanning this period has yielded a great deal of information about radiation and its biological effects and this activity has resulted in the discovery of many applications in medicine and industry including cancer therapy, medical diagnostics, and quality control during manufacturing. After Chernobyl, there has been a tendency to regard radiation as harmful, even in situations where the doses are equal to or below the natural level. Radiation and Health presents a balanced view of the nature of radiation and its existence in the environment, as well as discussing its effects on plants, animals and humans.
It also provides a survey of knowledge to date, from the discovery and basic theory of radiation and radioactivity to more recent developments concerned with the nature of radiation and its effect on biological systems. Numerous examples, exercises, and diagrams are included to make this book accessible to non-specialists.Radiation and Health provides information about the uses and consequences of ionizing radiation in medicine, research, and industry. It offers a basis for applying some basic calculations and comparing the results, and identifies risk factors to help establish rules and regulations that limit radiation doses, both to the individual and to society.GET IT FREE HEREALTERNATIVE LINK.
